Product Overview
GlucoMed XR contains metformin hydrochloride in an extended-release matrix system. It works by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. The extended-release formulation provides stable plasma concentrations, minimizing gastrointestinal side effects compared to immediate-release formulations.

Administration & Dosage
To be swallowed whole with the evening meal. The starting dose is one tablet (500mg) once daily, which can be titrated in increments of 500mg weekly, up to a maximum of 2,000mg once daily, depending on blood glucose response.
Packaging Specifications
PVC/PVdC-Aluminum blister packs. Available in boxes of 60 extended-release tablets (6 blisters of 10 tablets).
Critical Safety Information
- Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73m²).
- Risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic complication. Risk increases with renal impairment, excessive alcohol consumption, and hepatic insufficiency.
- Discontinue use at the time of or prior to iodinated contrast imaging procedures and withhold for 48 hours post-procedure.
