Product Overview
Zithromaxen (Azithromycin) is a subclass of macrolide antibiotics, chemically derived from erythromycin. It acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby interfering with microbial protein synthesis. It features excellent tissue penetration and a prolonged terminal half-life, allowing for short-course 3-day or 5-day dosing regimens.

Administration & Dosage
Typically administered as 500mg (1 tablet) once daily for 3 consecutive days, or as a 5-day regimen beginning with 500mg on Day 1 followed by 250mg daily on Days 2 through 5. Administer at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
Packaging Specifications
Aluminum-PVC blister pack of 3 tablets. Cartons contain 1 blister pack (3 tablets) or 2 blister packs (6 tablets).
Critical Safety Information
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or any macrolide antibiotic.
- Use with caution in patients with predispositions to cardiac arrhythmias, as macrolides can prolong the QT interval.
- Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) has been reported with nearly all systemic antibacterial agents.
